Saving money is one of the keys to achieving great objectives for the future. For example, with a good retirement it is possible to ensure certain peace of mind to do what you want in that stage of life. Well, did you know that collective investment funds (CIF) are a great way to save and reach different goals? In this article, we will explain the different alternatives that exist and what their main benefits are.
The different types of investment funds
Investment funds are defined as a financial mechanism that concentrates different contributions made by a group of people who invest in different instruments. That is, they are not companies or legal entities, but assets made up of contributions made by investors.
When you enter an investment fund, you buy small parts of it, known as fund units. Thus, the profitability of said fund will depend on the percentage increase or decrease that exists with respect to its value during a determined period. Taking the above into account, there are different investment funds that you need to know. Namely:
- Global: they do not have a defined investment policy, since there is the freedom not to set in advance the percentages that will be invested. They usually have high levels of risk, since markets, activity sectors or geographic distribution are not specified.
- Monetary: compared to the previous one, here there is a high level of liquidity with low risk. As they have low variability, it tends to be an ideal option for people who want to obtain the most sustained profitability possible.
- Income: there are fixed-income ones, which consist of bonds, treasury bills or promissory notes. The value of the funds depends on the evolution of interest rates. The shorter the maturity term of the fund's assets, the lower the risk. The variable-income ones comprise shares, with greater unpredictability.
- In turn, there are the collective investment funds, which we will explain below.
What are collective investment funds and how do they work?
These are a mechanism that gathers the contributions of several people to use them in different markets and sectors. As a result, negotiating power is increased, accessing several markets that can generate great revenue. On the other hand, they are usually managed by highly qualified professionals. They obtain a commission, while investors can obtain income based on:
- profitability,
- the risk they take
- and the money they have placed in the CIF.
For this reason, collective investment funds are characterized by their diversification when putting money in motion. Their risk is low, which is why the investment portfolio is diverse. In turn, they are regulated by authorized entities, ensuring that the process is safe.
As they are managed by third parties, it will also not be necessary for the holder of the fund unit to be aware of the evolution of each investment. For this reason, it is a great way for those who want to obtain an increase in income, but without having technical knowledge.
Why are collective investment funds a good option for earning money?
This kind of funds can generate a large amount of benefits. Let us see:
Low percentage of risk
Being diversified investments, the risk of collective investment funds will always be lower. As a clarification: there is no way to guarantee a fixed percentage of profitability. Although a certain stability is generated from a good administration of the money. For this reason, it is great for those looking to invest conservatively.
High security
The more fund units acquired, the greater the income that may exist. The market price of each share will vary based on the evolution of the values held by the fund, such as shares or bonds. And all this will guarantee high security without too much time of dedication, since third parties manage each CIF.
Low amount of income to enter
This is another aspect to highlight. In most cases, CIFs allow people to acquire their fund units at very low amounts. It will depend on each particular type, but they are usually an ideal option for those who decide to start learning about the world of investments.
So, collective investment funds can become a great alternative. Especially for those who prefer to take fewer risks and seek to obtain a sustained return over time. For this reason, dare to implement it to achieve more and better long-term objectives.
