During the administration of former President Carlos Lleras Restrepo, the Fondo Nacional del Ahorro (FNA) was created with the objective of administering the Cesantías of public and official workers in the country. Since then, the entity has been in constant growth. In 1973, the first housing project was carried out with the FNA; by 1998, it ceased to be a public establishment and became an industrial and commercial state enterprise attached to the Ministry of Housing. Subsequently, the Ahorro Voluntario product emerged, giving independent workers the opportunity to obtain housing loans; in 2011, the Colombianos en el Exterior program was created, allowing compatriots residing abroad to become property owners within national territory.

In 1975, the first mortgage loans were granted, fulfilling the dream of many Colombian families of owning their own home.
With Ley 432 de 1998, the Fondo Nacional del Ahorro obtained administrative autonomy, becoming a modern and efficient enterprise.
In 2011, the FNA began receiving Cesantías from private-sector employees, extending its reach to millions of Colombians.
The Ahorro Voluntario Contractual (AVC) was launched, a product designed for education and housing.
During the pandemic, key processes were digitized, facilitating online loan applications and Cesantías management.
The FNA developed an exclusive portal for the Mi Vivienda program, enhancing the experience for its affiliates.
